The Design Process
1. Discovery & Research
Before I build your brand, we will have a quick chat so I can understand more about your business to discover the true meaning of your brand. Who are your competitors? What is it that sets you apart from them? Who is your intended audience? Who is your ideal client? Once I understand your goals I can start planning ways to make that happen.
2. Concept Design
This is an exciting stage where I work to translate from the research stage into a new visual identity. Depending on what we are creating I may start with some simple sketches or a mood board for your brand. This will create a solid foundation for building a great design.
3. Design Development
From this point we go back and forth through a process of revision rounds, Perfecting the design until you are satisfied. Once you are completely happy with the design I will go to create any brand assets. Typically this can include business cards, letterheads, email signatures, promotional materials, expo stands, capability statements, social media banners & posts etc.
4. Project Delivery
This is where you will receive your finalized designs and any brand assets, this will also include all file types, styles, and formats required for use in the future. Post-design support is also offered for the logo, so if you ever have any questions or need advice concerning the logo, I will always be here to help.
FAQ
Every project I work on is different. I like to have an initial meeting/discovery call with potential clients to find out the unique business goals, scope of the project, and your personal needs. After we have been able to meet each other and speak about the possibilities, I will send a custom proposal tailored to your specific needs.
I require a 30% deposit before starting, smaller jobs may require a 50% deposit. This ensures that your project is locked into my schedule and allows me to effectively manage all my client’s projects.
The amount of revisions included in your project will be agreed upon by us before starting the project and will be included in the contract, typically I offer 2-3 revisions depending on the project. Any further revisions will be charged out at the hourly rate stated in your contract.
My time frame depends on the scope of a project. A full custom branding package can take up to 6-8 weeks, depending on my availability.
You do! The copyright for your designs is transferred to you when you make the final payment on a completed project. I will keep the personal right to use completed projects and concept artwork for marketing purposes.
Primary Logo – Your primary logo is the main graphic that your business uses most often.
Alternative Logo – This is a variation created to compliment your main logo but usually it is simplified and/or uses a different layout to ensure you have options no matter how you want to use it.
Logo mark – The logo mark is the logo without the wording (think the swoosh in Nike).
Word Mark – Wordmarks are the text elements within your logo (the word “Nike” in the Nike logo).
Your logo is a simple graphic, a single image that is used as the main way to identify your business visually. Think of it like your business name but in visual form.
Your visual identity is everything else that makes up the look and feel of your business, it’s your logo design and your colours, graphics, icons, fonts and all the things that work together to define your visual style.
The branding of your business is all these but also includes the creation of business card design, letterheads, thank you cards, email signatures or any other material essential for your business branding.
I can offer a simple web design solution to clients that have already worked through our branding process. I use a pre-existing template on WordPress fully customised with your own visual identity. If you’re looking for something a little more complex I work with other affiliates to help
